Hold it up

Whenever I step out of the house, there is one thing I am very scared of. It is to pee in the public toilets, they are stinky and filthy. I try my best to avoid visiting these filthy public toilets. They are never clean, and water never comes from the tap and flushes never work properly. There have been days when I have stepped out of the house and return back in the evening and rush to the toilet because I have controlled it a full day and my uterus is about to burst. I am aware of the fact that it is unhealthy to control the pee, it can damage the organs, but I just can’t use the public toilets.

dirty filthy unhygienic public toilets

In the month of May, we visited Kerala. Every site in Kerala is magnificent. The mountains covered up with tea plantations, blue sky, green deep valley, everything is a delight. I could not resist clicking photographs of every landscape. Our return journey from Thekkady to Kochi was a 4 hours’ drive. We had a tummy full of breakfast and started the trip. The road was too mountainous which was making me dizzy and nauseated, we took a pit stop and I bought a soda. I finished 200 ml soda in just 5 minutes and soon I had to pee. Kochi Airport was still 2.5 hours away, I thought I will be able to hold it like I always do. The road was bumpy, and it was getting difficult to hold anymore. I told my situation to my husband and both of us started searching for some good hotels where I could use the washroom. It was valley area so there was nothing in the stretch. Now, the airport was just an hour away and I started panicking, I told my husband to keep a close eye on the road. My fate was bad, we could not find anything. I stopped talking, I did not even answer my son’s questions, I closed my eyes as if I was waiting for my death. I was dreaded to even breathe. I told my husband, “As soon as we reach the airport, I am going to rush to the washroom. You take care of the luggage and our son and pay the driver too.” He just nodded.
We reached the airport and I jumped off the car, I had to look for the washroom. I saw a security guard and asked him for the washroom, he quickly directed me. I ran as fast as I could (I wanted to run like Milkha Singh, but my pace was of the fastest running tortoise). I have never prayed so hard to any God till now. I wanted to save myself from public embarrassment. Entering the loo was like heaven to me then. I stepped out from the washroom and I am sure my body must have thanked me a lot. I have decided now, never ever will I hold it up so much. But isn’t it difficult for all the ladies to use the public washroom that is so dirty and unhygienic, if only we could stand like men and finish our business in open too?
