30 Seconds of Convenience

Its not been long that I have a machine in my kitchen that helps me with getting things done in just 30 seconds. What else does one housewife need?
My mornings are busy as compared to the rest of the day. So, this machine is my saviour. I am talking about my microwave. We had no microwave at our home when I got married, so I did not feel the need of buying one. After our marriage, due to my husband’s work profile, we kept travelling to the USA for almost 2 years. Coming from a middle-class family and now belonging to a middle-class family I never felt the need to bring home this super convenient machine. Our stays in the USA made us realise that it is important to have a microwave in our house. So, we decided to purchase a microwave and after a good research we got home one.
It is a ritual in almost all the middle-class Hindu families to perform puja on anything that is new. Once the puja was done, the first thing our little microwave did was heat up the water and boom a glass of water was warm in just 30 secs! All of us were over joyous. Then the routine started, we all started drinking lukewarm water in the morning. Because all you have to do is fill up water in the glass and put it up in the microwave….and it is done in 30 secs.  It heats up everything, like literally everything. My mother-in-law was unaware of the fact that we should use only microwaveable utensils into the microwave. One evening she wanted to melt the Govardhan ghee that was in the plastic container, as a norm she removed the lid of the plastic container and pushed Start button, but in 10 secs there were sparks in the microwave and dddzzzzzz. I went running to the kitchen, “What happened?” She said, “I just wanted to melt this ghee, I think microwave is faulty.” I laughed; she was innocent. It was then that we all explained her the working of microwave.

After some weeks my son, wanted to eat a bowl of his favourite Palak Paneer, and he wanted it now. I have never given him things to eat straight out of fridge because he catches cold. So, I kept the bowl in the microwave and pushed Start button. 30 secs and I was happy, but I realised only the surface was heated and the rest of sabzi was cold as dead. So, I mixed it up and heated again. This time it was perfect. 30 seconds + 30 seconds is my perfect formula for refrigerated food.  I heat up milk for my son, I heat up my vegetables & curries, I heat up rice and even chocolate bar because I like to lick it!
Microwave has given me 30 seconds of convenience and immense happiness because I don’t have to change food in different bowls and plates. Thus, decreasing my load in the kitchen sink. Little things give me immense happiness.

Yes I can't survive without a microwave and it also reduces the gas consumption hugely
