“मग कशी वाटली?” नयना पाण्याचा ग्लास घेउन नितीनच्या हातात देते. नितीन चेहरा पाडून बसला होता. “अरे दादा, कशी वाटली मुलगी? मला सविस्तर सांग सगळं,” नयना मांडी घालून नितीनच्या बाजुला बसते, इतक्यात बाजारात गेलेली त्यांची आई घरी येते. “नितीन कधी आलास बाळा? भेटलास का तिला? कशी आहे स्वभावाने? फोटो मधे जशी सुंदर दिसते तशी खरी आहे का अप्सरा सारखी?” आईने प्रश्नांचा डोंगर उभा केला. नितीन आपला तोंड पाडून बसला होता. नयनाने अंदाज मांडला की दादाला मुलगी आवडली नाही, त्याचा मूड ठीक करायला ती चिडवत बोलली, “एक नाही आवडली म्हणून काय झालं! आपण अजुन बघुयात, दादा तु टेन्शन नको घेऊस, मी फुलासारखी छान वहिनी शोधते.” नयना लगेच लॅपटॉप घेउन शोधायला सुरूवात करते.
“काय वेड लागलंय का तुला नयना? मला ती खूप आवडली, इतकी की तिच्यासोबतच लग्न करेल,” नितीन चिडून बोलला. “आवडली तर तोंड पाडून का बसलास?” नयनाला प्रश्नच पडला.”तु मंद आहेस का? तुला समजत नाही का प्रॉब्लेम काय आहे?” नितीन त्रस्त झाला. “मला काय ब्रह्मदेव सांगून नाही गेले तुझा प्रॉब्लेम. तु बोलशील तर समजेल,” नयना पण चिडून बोलली होती. “अग तिचं पण नाव नयना आहे. एका घरात दोन नयना!!!” इन केलेलं शर्ट आणि मोजे दोन्ही फेकले गेले कोपऱ्यात.”नितीन हा काय प्रोब्लेम आहे? लग्न झाल्यावर आपण तिचं नाव बदलुयात,” आईने त्याचं समर्थन केलं. “आई असं होउ शकत? वाव मग तर करा तयारी लग्नाची.” नितीन उड्या मारू लागला.
“नाही हा! असं कसं तुम्ही तिचं नाव बदलणार? किती छान नाव आहे नयना!” नयनाने विरोधाचा स्वर लावला. “दुसरा काही पर्याय असेल तर सुचव मग तुच,” नितीन चिडून तोंड हात पाय धुवायला गेला.
थोड्या वेळाने नयना त्याच्या रूम मधे जाते, “दादा मला पर्याय सुचला! मला तुम्ही लहानपणी छोटी बोलायचे ना.. मग आता पुन्हा छोटी अशीच हाक मारा आणि तिला नयना अशी.. आणि ५-६ वर्षांत माझं लग्न होईलच, मग मी घरी पण नसणार. हाच उत्तम पर्याय आहे.”
नितिन हताश झाला, “तुला माहित आहे, तु झालीस तेव्हा मी दुसरीला होतो, आमच्या वर्गशिक्षिका फारच सुंदर आणि प्रेमळ होत्या. त्यांचं नाव नयना होतं. आई तेव्हा गरोदर होती, एक दिवशी सकाळीच आईला त्रास सुरु झाला आणि बाबा तीला घेउन डॉक्टर कडे गेले, आजीने मला विचारलं, तुला बहीण पाहिजे की भाऊ? तेव्हा मी काहीच विचार न करता उत्तर दिलं होतं की मला बहीण पाहिजे, तिचं नाव मी नयना ठेवणार. आमच्या बाई आहेत ना तशीच होइल माझी बहीण, सगळयांना आवडणारी. आणि दुपारी बाबांचा फोन आला की आपल्या घरी लक्ष्मी आली. मी आजी सोबत दुसऱ्या दिवशी दवाखान्यात गेलो, आईने तुला माझ्या मांडीवर ठेवले. तुझे इवलेसे डोळे उघडुन तु माझ्याकडे बघितलं, तुझे घारे घारे पाणीदार डोळे पाहून मी आईला सांगितलं की हीचं नाव आपण ‘नयना’ ठेवायचं. आईला सुद्धा हे नाव प्रचंड आवडलं. तेव्हा पासून तु माझी नयना आहेस. आता इतक्या प्रेमाने मी तुझं नाव ठेवलं आणि तु म्हणतेस तुला पुन्हा छोटी अशी हाक मारू!!” नितीन गंभीर झाला. नयना त्याच्या बाजुला येऊन बसली, त्याच्या खांद्यावर डोकं ठवलं आणि बोलली, “दादा जसं तु माझं नाव इतक्या प्रेमाने ठेवलं, तितक्याच प्रेमाने तिच्या घरच्यांनी पण ठेवलं असेल ना! तिला किती वाईट वाटेल ह्याचा नाही विचार केलास?”
नितीन तडक उठला आणि आईसोबत बोलायला गेला, मग काय पुढे दोघांच्या घरची मंडळी भेटली, बोलणी झाली आणि नितीन आणि नयना ह्यांचं लग्न धुम धडाक्यात पार पाडलं. आता नयना आणि नयना पक्क्या मैत्रिणी झाल्या आणि घर एकदम बोलकं झाले.
