Cartoons have been an integral part of my life. I say ‘life’ because I have been watching cartoons since my childhood and I still enjoy watching them with my 5 years old. In 90’s we had only Doordarshan channel and I have a vivid memory of cartoons like ‘Duck Tales’, ‘Talespin’, ‘Alice in the Wonderland’, which were telecasted on the Sundays. Out of all, Duck Tales was my favourite, I still remember entire episodes of this one. I used to be startled by Uncle Scrooge’s wealth and his gadgets and the best part was the treasure hunt.
A few days ago, I was listening to a radio show where they were playing antakshari in between the songs, I liked the format of that show and while they were doing the countdown I was also thinking of the songs from those letters. One of the players were stuck with the letter ‘Z’ and without any
hesitation, I jumped and started singing, “Zindagi toofani hai, jaha hai Duck world…gaadiyan, lasers havai jahaj…yeh hai duck world. Rahasya suljhao, itihas banao…ducktales….woohoohoo
My husband is not a huge fan of cartoons, he never watched them as a child (when he told me this, I felt sad for him) although, he loves watching animated movies with me (only the really good ones). When, I was pregnant, in my free time I used to grab cookies and other junk food which I would never eat otherwise and watch Disney channel. One day my husband returned from office and asked me, “Why are you watching kids channel, are the channels not working?” “I love cartoons and I want my kid to love them too, I am showing the cartoons to our kid right now,” I happily replied. He rolled his eyes and walked away. I must say all my hard work was fruitful, my son enjoys watching cartoons just the way I wanted. Though he has got many many options, I make sure his screen time does not exceed one hour in a day with safe viewing distance.
He is currently, a big fan of PJ Masks and Paw Patrol while I am stuck with Duck Tales.
