Kids are genius and I mean all the kids, the way they think and explain it to us is exceptional. Have you ever wondered how challenging it is to learn new words and their meaning every day? My kid started speaking 2 words together after he celebrated his 2nd birthday. We all were anxiously waiting for him to start speaking. The early language of the kids is understood only by his parents and I am a big fan of all the kids during that stage of first words. All the kids have their own word for certain things, the decoding has to be done by parents. And when they utterly don’t know what to say, they cry or shout or simply point at that thing.
When my son was 2.5 years old, me, my husband and my kid went for a walk after dinner. I wanted to buy a satin ribbon so we first went to a stationary shop and then stopped for a kulfi. After we finished eating kulfi, we started walking back home when my son started crying. We did a routine check, first was the diaper then we checked for any mosquito/insect bites and then we started asking him the reason for tears. He was simply mumbling, not a single clear word. “I think he wants to eat kulfi too. We just offered him to taste it and then did not give it to him,” I suggested my husband. We promptly bought one kulfi and gave it to him. He kept it in hand, it melted, and his dress was spoiled, but he continued crying. Now we were tensed, was he afraid of honking or some noise, or are his shoes not comfortable!! Then he looked at the stationery shop and stared at it. We took him to the same shop again. As soon as we entered the shop, he pointed at the cars kept on the shelf, “Oh, you want that car?” I asked him. He nodded his head and smiled. Wow all this for a car, that too 10 minutes after leaving the shop!

Now, my kid is 4 years old and is able to communicate well. He is still learning new words daily. All the kids in his class are preparing for a Diwali party where my son is a comparer of the event along with his friend. Today morning he said, “Ma’am has told me to wear ZEBAR.” “What?” I asked him. “Arre Mumma…ZEBAR,” he replied. I still did not understand. He kept repeating the word, later I asked him when did his teacher has asked him to wear the ZEBAR. “For Diwali party, she told you also on the day of PTI, you forgot?” he was irritated by now. “Oh, do you mean BLAZER?” I said laughing. “That’s what I was saying since morning,” he facepalmed.
I love kids when they think they are saying it right but they say it all wrong and in the end they put all the blame on us for not listening properly.
